Superstars Coaching has survived 14 years without any of its staff murdering a co-worker.

This is remarkable, seeing as we are a family business.

There’s something warm and reassuring about hearing the term ‘family business’, but from the inside, it can sometimes be a completely different story.  At Superstars, yes we may work with siblings and the odd parent, or in my case, with my husband, but it can be the polar opposite of warm and fuzzy at times, it really can.

One thing I absolutely love about our family working dynamic though, is that we’re honest.  We sometimes have heated discussions, but they force an outcome.  We frequently have major disagreements, but they ignite action.  This dynamic keeps our organisation fresh, forward-thinking and in a position of continuing professional development and improvement – something that our company ethos actively champions.

I reveal all of this because I heard an awful word today.  Copreneur.  You are correct to underline it, SpellCheck, because it’s not a real word – or it certainly shouldn’t be.  As a grammar geek away from my role at Superstars, one of my lifetime ambitions is to invent a new word and have it entered into the OED, but I’d like to think that when inspiration hits me to coin a true neologism, people will be able to vocalise the word in question without being sick, or at the very least be able to figure out what on earth the word even means.

Copreneur.  Apparently, it means two entrepreneurs working together as the result of some kind of personal relationship.  If I started referring to Steven in public as my copreneur, he’d probably divorce me.  I respect him for that, and that’s why our family business works so very well – there’s no dressing anything up.  We are what we are and we do what we do.  No fancy titles, no ambiguous concepts, no fuss for our clients.
