In the first instalment of our series of ‘Meet the Team’ blogs, please meet our Head of HR (Husky Resources) – Akira Watson.

The team at Superstars like to be ethical in all that we do, and so re-homing and recruiting this Siberian stunner last summer was a natural choice.  We had visited Bolton Destitute Animal Shelter, as we often like to do, to donate food, toys and bedding for the animals that the Shelter does such a good job of caring for, but when our eyes met Akira’s as we visited the pup pens, we fell in love and decided we needed to headhunt her to our team.

The recruitment process began!

Firstly, we checked Akira’s credentials.  Fully DBS (doggy biscuit scavenging) checked.  An excellent start.

Next, we asked her what qualities she could bring to our venture.  Akira responded by rounding up a selection of small balls and toys before engaging us with cuddles.  A health and safety nut with a strong pastoral streak.  Another for the ‘plus’ column.

Finally, we considered if Akira would be a good fit for our existing team.  Would her colleagues judge her fairly on her ability to do her job as opposed to basing their judgements on her stunning good looks?  Would the fact that she has more energy than any of our already incredibly active team cause competition in the workplace?  Would her midnight howling episodes convince her co-workers that she may have ‘beliefs’ that were culturally just too different to theirs?

On balance, the team at Superstars felt that Akira simply had to be appointed, and we figured she’d bowl everyone over eventually.  Either that, or she’d physically bowl them over with her bulky (but beautiful) frame.

Akira has been in post as our Head of HR for almost one year now, and other than a few unfortunate grievances involving fox poo, a bag of Cadbury mis-shapes, and getting her head stuck in a fence on her first day, she’s proved to be the most beloved member of the Superstars team.  Well done, lady.  #GoHuskies
